About Us

Who are we?
Our team is a composed of a number of people who are committed to making this website and its companion magazine the most informed about visiting, working and living in the Olive Country provinces of Córdoba, Granada and Jaén in central Andalucía, Spain.

By providing this site since October 2007 and the magazine from August 2008, we have been made very aware from the feedback from our browsers and readership of the need for a central community and business meeting point that is accessible to all.

To accommodate this need, the new Olive Country Conexiónes Centre, opened in April 2009, at Avenida Iberoamérica 48, 23680 Alcalá La Real, Jaén. The centre is easily accessed from the N-432, just opposite Mercadona for anyone travelling from the Córdoba or Granada provinces.

Welcome

Welcome to Alcalá Life

As with all publications the deadline dates are always precarious - the Olive Country Life magazine is no different - and often items fail to meet those deadlines.

Sadly it has been the local “What’s On” for various areas.  To ensure that you don’t miss out click on the links and see “What’s On” in your area!

   1. What’s On in January 2010 in Alcalá La Real
   2. What’s On in January 2010 in the Province of Jaén
   3. What’s On in January 2010 in Priego de Córdoba

Olive Country Life

Olive Country Life S.L.

A Spanish company formed by the founders of the Alcalá Life website to enable them to legitimately sell advertising space in a magazine which they initially called Alcalá Life. This name was changed in January 2009 to Olive Country Life (retaining the Alcalá Life title as an integrated part of the magazine).

The reason for the change of name was that a large proportion of the advertisers in the surrounding towns and villages felt that the magazine was meant for only Alcalá residents and as such were reluctant to advertise in the magazine.

The magazine is a FREE publication paid for by the advertising and is distributed throughout the Central Andalucian area. Currently the distribution is 5,000 magazines a month but the team is working on

increasing that rapidly.

World of Warcraft
Written by Chris

World of Warcraft

11.5 million people play WoW. 11.5 million! Let me put that in context for you, Switzerland has a population of 7.7 million people. There are more people running around Azeroth, Kalimdor, Outland and Northrand than there are people making fine chocolate and clocks! And for good reason.

World of Warcraft is THE MMORPG (Massivly Multiplay Online Role Playing Game) and nothing has even come close to toppling in. Thats not to say there are no other MMO's out there or that they are not any good, its just they cant match WoW's popularity. With a rich lore, established story, excelent gameplay and contiunous support from the develepors its not surprising that so many people hand over their money every month to play this game.

Its hard to review WoW as it is a game that is ever expanding, changing and developing. If you played the game since launch then you will know that the game today is not the game you started playing all those years ago. So what can a new player expect from the Daddy of all PC games? Well on first logging in you have a simple choice to make, Horde (Orcs, Trolls, Undead etc)  or Alliance (Humans, Dwarfs, Gnomes etc. Oh, did I forget to mention this is set in the a-typical fantasy realm? After picking your race, sex and general appearence you get to pick your class. This is where the game differs from other games. Playing as a Palladin (a hybrid class) you can be a healer, a tank (the guy who takes all the damage) or DPS (the guy doing all the damage) and each role you take changes the game for you. A healer will have a completly different game from a Tank. Some classes, such as the Paladin and Druid can be all three roles while others, such as the Mage or Rouge, can only be DPS. There are 9 classes in total meaning you have 9 different games to play.

WoW, at its very basic, is a "Kill this for XP" game. The more you kill, the more you level up and the better your loot will be. Been online you can play with others, form groups, quest together and so forth, but you can play the entire game solo if you wanted, you will miss out on a lot (especialy at the higher levels) but you can.

To be honest, its impossible to review WoW because there is just so much to it. Its a world unto itself (hence the World part in World of Warcraft), you can fish, exploer, mine, make cloths, cook, fight, defend, attack whatever you want. If you and a few friends decided you wanted to go on a pub crawl you can!

Blizzard allows anyone to have a free 10 day trial of WoW and I recomend it to anyone, and at €10 a month for a game that is forever changing, expanding and improving, you cant go wrong.
