You will have noticed that Spain is taking its rubbish recycling commitments very seriously.

The local council supplies us all with a well thought out and executed waste disposal system that must be the envy of every other country in the world.

Every village and town has large bins for the disposal of daily rubbish and even larger bins for the recycling of cardboard, plastic and glass all within a few minutes walk of everyone’s home. So as newcomers here we should support it and use it!!

So here is your rubbish recycling guide!

February saw the introduction of new regulations for the correct use of the rubbish bins that are empted daily.

New regulations, issued by the Environment Office

These new regulations, issued by the Environment Office, are deadly serious and should be adhered to, protect the workers and us, the users, as they will reduce the spread of disease, vermin and insect infestations and help keep our local areas clean and more pleasant to use.

The regulations, attached to the front of the bins state:

Rubbish bags should be sealed carefully.

Rubbish should be placed in the bins between the hours of 19.00 and 21.00 (7pm and 9pm). Failure to comply may result in prosecutions and a 750 Euro fine.

Cardboard - Remove tape and staples and fold flat.

Glass – Bottles and jars only. Remove tops and rinse out.

Plastic – Remove bottles caps and flatten,replace cap.

Free Tip – Clean Point – Punto Limpio

The Council has a special tipping area where you can dispose of unwanted items, free of charge, such as:

Furniture, electrical appliances, mattresses, old clothing, garden waste, and oil products from cars and cooking.

The location of this tipping area for Alcalá La Real is area on the old Priego road A339, near the N-43, we aim to have a complete list for the whole of central Andalucia soon..

Open: Mon – Fri: 16:00 to 19:00 (4pm – 7pm)

Saturdays: 10:30 to 13:30. (10.30 – 1.30pm)
